भारत का पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र अपनी हिमालयी पर्वत श्रृंखलाओं, हरे-भरे जंगलों, झरनों, नदियों, वन्यजीवों, बौद्ध विरासत, जनजातीय संस्कृति और अनूठी जीवनशैली के लिए जाना जाता है। असम के वन्यजीवों से लेकर मेघालय के Living Root Bridges, अरुणाचल प्रदेश के ऊंचे पहाड़ों और सिक्किम के हिमालयी दृश्यों तक, यह क्षेत्र यात्रियों को प्रकृति और संस्कृति का असाधारण मिश्रण देता है।
North-East India is known for its Himalayan landscapes, lush forests, waterfalls, rivers, wildlife, Buddhist heritage, tribal cultures and distinctive traditions. From Assam’s wildlife and river-island culture to Meghalaya’s living root bridges, Arunachal Pradesh’s mountains and Sikkim’s Himalayan views, the region offers travellers an exceptional combination of nature, culture and adventure.

The New Tourism Picture
पर्यटन मंत्रालय के 10 अगस्त 2026 के आधिकारिक उत्तर के अनुसार जनवरी–जून 2026 के दौरान पूर्वोत्तर के आठ राज्यों में 90,18,105 घरेलू पर्यटक यात्राएं और 1,00,256 विदेशी पर्यटक यात्राएं दर्ज की गईं। पूरे 2025 में क्षेत्र में 1,51,34,438 घरेलू और 1,61,669 विदेशी पर्यटक यात्राएं दर्ज हुई थीं। 2026 के आंकड़े पूरे वर्ष के आंकड़ों से सीधे तुलना योग्य नहीं हैं क्योंकि वे केवल छह महीनों को कवर करते हैं और मेघालय का 2026 आंकड़ा जनवरी–मार्च तक है।
According to the Ministry of Tourism’s official response dated 10 August 2026, the eight North-Eastern states recorded 9,018,105 domestic tourist visits and 100,256 foreign tourist visits during January–June 2026. In full-year 2025, the region recorded 15,134,438 domestic and 161,669 foreign visits. The 2026 figures should not be treated as directly comparable with the full-year 2025 totals because they cover only part of the year, and Meghalaya’s 2026 figure covers January–March.

असम पूर्वोत्तर भारत का सबसे बड़ा घरेलू पर्यटन बाजार बना हुआ है। 2025 में राज्य में 90,55,943 घरेलू पर्यटक यात्राएं दर्ज हुईं। काजीरंगा राष्ट्रीय उद्यान, मानस, माजुली और गुवाहाटी राज्य के प्रमुख पर्यटन आकर्षणों में शामिल हैं। काजीरंगा अपने एक सींग वाले गैंडे और समृद्ध वन्यजीवों के लिए प्रसिद्ध है, जबकि माजुली नदी-द्वीप की संस्कृति और वैष्णव सत्रों के लिए विशेष पहचान रखता है।

Assam remained the largest domestic tourism market in North-East India, recording 9,055,943 domestic visits in 2025. Kaziranga National Park, Manas, Majuli and Guwahati are among its major attractions. Kaziranga is renowned for its one-horned rhinoceros and wildlife, while Majuli offers a distinctive river-island experience centred on culture, traditions and Vaishnavite satras.

2. सिक्किम — हिमालय और विदेशी पर्यटकों की पसंद

सिक्किम ने पूर्वोत्तर के विदेशी पर्यटन में सबसे मजबूत प्रदर्शन किया। 2025 में राज्य में 68,992 विदेशी पर्यटक यात्राएं दर्ज हुईं। जनवरी–जून 2026 में सिक्किम ने 23,52,725 घरेलू और 43,734 विदेशी पर्यटक यात्राएं दर्ज कीं। गंगटोक, त्सोमगो झील, पेलिंग, रावंगला और बौद्ध मठ राज्य के प्रमुख अनुभवों में शामिल हैं।
Sikkim recorded the strongest foreign-tourism performance in the region, with 68,992 foreign visits in 2025. During January–June 2026, it recorded 2,352,725 domestic and 43,734 foreign visits. Gangtok, Tsomgo Lake, Pelling, Ravangla and Buddhist monasteries offer a combination of Himalayan scenery, culture and peaceful mountain experiences.

3. मेघालय — झरने, गुफाएं और Living Root Bridges

मेघालय पूर्वोत्तर के सबसे आकर्षक प्रकृति पर्यटन स्थलों में से एक है। शिलांग, चेरापूंजी, डॉकी और नोंग्रियाट क्षेत्र झरनों, पहाड़ियों, गुफाओं और Living Root Bridges के लिए प्रसिद्ध हैं। नोंग्रियाट का Double Decker Living Root Bridge प्रकृति और स्थानीय पारंपरिक ज्ञान के अद्भुत मेल का उदाहरण है। कई प्राकृतिक स्थलों तक पहुंचने के लिए ट्रेकिंग की आवश्यकता होती है।

Meghalaya is one of the region’s most distinctive nature destinations. Shillong, Cherrapunji, Dawki and Nongriat are known for waterfalls, hills, caves and living root bridges. The double-decker living root bridge at Nongriat is a remarkable example of the relationship between nature and traditional local knowledge. Several attractions require trekking to reach.

4. अरुणाचल प्रदेश — पहाड़, मठ और रोमांच

अरुणाचल प्रदेश ऊंचे पहाड़ों, घाटियों, झीलों और बौद्ध विरासत के कारण साहसिक और प्रकृति पर्यटन के लिए खास है। तवांग इसका सबसे प्रसिद्ध पर्वतीय गंतव्य है, जहां तवांग मठ, सेला पास और ऊंचाई वाले प्राकृतिक दृश्य यात्रियों को आकर्षित करते हैं। जीरो घाटी अपने शांत वातावरण, अपातानी संस्कृति और हरे-भरे कृषि परिदृश्य के लिए अलग पहचान रखती है।

Arunachal Pradesh is ideal for travellers interested in mountains, valleys, high-altitude landscapes and Buddhist heritage. Tawang is its best-known mountain destination, featuring Tawang Monastery, Sela Pass and dramatic Himalayan scenery. Ziro Valley offers a different experience through its peaceful landscapes, Apatani culture and green agricultural surroundings.

5. नागालैंड — जनजातीय संस्कृति और त्योहार
Nagaland — Tribal Culture & Festivals
नागालैंड का पर्यटन इसकी विविध जनजातीय संस्कृतियों, पारंपरिक गांवों, पहाड़ी परिदृश्यों और त्योहारों से जुड़ा है। कोहिमा और आसपास के क्षेत्र यात्रियों को स्थानीय इतिहास और संस्कृति से परिचित कराते हैं। ड्ज़ुको घाटी ट्रेकिंग और प्राकृतिक दृश्यों के लिए लोकप्रिय है। दिसंबर में आयोजित होने वाला Hornbill Festival भी राज्य की सांस्कृतिक पहचान को देश और दुनिया के सामने प्रस्तुत करता है।
Nagaland’s tourism identity is closely linked with its diverse tribal cultures, traditional villages, hills and festivals. Kohima and surrounding areas offer opportunities to explore local history and culture, while Dzüko Valley is attractive for trekking and landscapes. The annual Hornbill Festival in December is another major platform showcasing Nagaland’s cultural traditions.

6. मणिपुर — झील, इतिहास और सांस्कृतिक विरासत

मणिपुर की पर्यटन पहचान में लोकटक झील, इम्फाल की ऐतिहासिक विरासत और स्थानीय संस्कृति प्रमुख हैं। लोकटक झील अपने तैरते हुए फुमदी द्वीपों के लिए विशेष रूप से प्रसिद्ध है। इम्फाल में कांगला और Ima Keithel जैसे स्थल राज्य के इतिहास और सामाजिक-सांस्कृतिक जीवन को समझने का अवसर देते हैं। आधिकारिक आंकड़ों में मणिपुर की पर्यटन संख्या अन्य राज्यों की तुलना में कम रही है।
Manipur’s tourism identity includes Loktak Lake, historical sites in Imphal and its distinctive cultural heritage. Loktak is particularly known for its floating phumdis. Places such as Kangla and Ima Keithel offer visitors opportunities to understand the state’s history and social traditions. Official tourism figures show lower visitor volumes compared with several other North-Eastern states.

7. मिजोरम — पहाड़ और शांत प्राकृतिक अनुभव
Mizoram — Hills & Peaceful Nature
मिजोरम अपनी पहाड़ी भौगोलिक संरचना, हरियाली, स्थानीय संस्कृति और शांत वातावरण के कारण अलग तरह का पर्यटन अनुभव देता है। आइजोल और रिइक क्षेत्र राज्य के प्रमुख आकर्षणों में शामिल हैं। 2025 में मिजोरम में 8,28,223 घरेलू और 11,484 विदेशी पर्यटक यात्राएं दर्ज हुईं। यह राज्य उन यात्रियों के लिए उपयुक्त हो सकता है जो अपेक्षाकृत शांत और कम भीड़ वाले पहाड़ी अनुभव की तलाश में हैं।
Mizoram offers a different tourism experience through its hills, greenery, local culture and relatively peaceful atmosphere. Aizawl and Reiek are among its notable attractions. In 2025, Mizoram recorded 828,223 domestic and 11,484 foreign visits. It can appeal to travellers looking for quieter hill experiences away from some of the region’s busier destinations.

8. त्रिपुरा — महल, विरासत और पुरातात्विक चमत्कार
Tripura — Palaces, Heritage & Archaeology
त्रिपुरा पूर्वोत्तर में विरासत और पुरातत्व पर्यटन के लिए महत्वपूर्ण है। अगरतला का उज्जयंत पैलेस, नीरमहल और उनाकोटी के प्राचीन शिल्प एवं शैल-कट मूर्तियां राज्य के प्रमुख आकर्षण हैं। 2025 में त्रिपुरा में 6,81,103 घरेलू और 27,320 विदेशी पर्यटक यात्राएं दर्ज हुईं। विदेशी पर्यटन के मामले में राज्य 2025 और जनवरी–जून 2026 दोनों अवधियों में क्षेत्र के प्रमुख राज्यों में रहा।
Tripura is an important destination for heritage and archaeological tourism in the North-East. Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala, Neermahal and the rock-cut sculptures of Unakoti are among its major attractions. Tripura recorded 681,103 domestic and 27,320 foreign visits in 2025, and remained among the region’s stronger states for foreign tourism in both 2025 and January–June 2026.

Suggested North-East Itineraries
6–7 दिन — Meghalaya: गुवाहाटी → शिलांग → चेरापूंजी → डॉकी → गुवाहाटी। यह पहली यात्रा के लिए प्रकृति, झरनों और पहाड़ी अनुभव का अच्छा संयोजन है।

अक्टूबर–अप्रैल: कई लोकप्रिय पर्यटन स्थलों के लिए सामान्यतः अच्छा समय माना जाता है। मार्च–मई: पहाड़ी क्षेत्रों में हरियाली और सुहावना मौसम देखने को मिल सकता है। जून–सितंबर: मेघालय और अन्य पहाड़ी क्षेत्रों में भारी बारिश हो सकती है, जिससे यात्रा और सड़क संपर्क प्रभावित हो सकता है। दिसंबर: नागालैंड के Hornbill Festival जैसे सांस्कृतिक आयोजनों के लिए विशेष समय हो सकता है।
October–April: Generally suitable for many popular destinations. March–May: Pleasant conditions and green landscapes in several hill areas. June–September: Heavy rainfall can affect travel and road connectivity in Meghalaya and other hill regions. December: Particularly interesting for cultural events such as Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival.

Government Push for Tourism
पर्यटन मंत्रालय पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र को बढ़ावा देने के लिए International Tourism Mart, Incredible India Digital Platform, क्षेत्रीय मेलों और त्योहारों के लिए वित्तीय सहायता तथा Swadesh Darshan 2.0, PRASHAD, SASCI और Challenge-Based Destination Development जैसी योजनाओं का उपयोग कर रहा है। क्षेत्रीय एयर-कनेक्टिविटी को भी Tourism RCS routes के माध्यम से समर्थन दिया जा रहा है।
The Ministry of Tourism is supporting North-East India through initiatives such as the International Tourism Mart, the Incredible India Digital Platform, financial assistance for regional fairs and festivals, and tourism infrastructure programmes including Swadesh Darshan 2.0, PRASHAD, SASCI and Challenge-Based Destination Development. Regional air connectivity is also being supported through Tourism RCS routes.

पूर्वोत्तर में कई पर्यटन स्थल दूरदराज और पहाड़ी क्षेत्रों में स्थित हैं। तवांग, जीरो, ड्ज़ुको घाटी और अन्य दूरस्थ क्षेत्रों की यात्रा से पहले मौसम, सड़क की स्थिति, स्थानीय परमिट और प्रवेश नियमों की जानकारी जरूर लें। अरुणाचल प्रदेश के कुछ क्षेत्रों में Inner Line Permit जैसी आवश्यकताएं लागू हो सकती हैं। यात्रा कार्यक्रम बनाते समय दूरी और वास्तविक सड़क यात्रा समय को ध्यान में रखना भी जरूरी है।
Several North-Eastern destinations are located in remote and mountainous areas. Before travelling to Tawang, Ziro, Dzüko Valley and other remote destinations, check weather, road conditions, local permits and entry requirements. Certain areas of Arunachal Pradesh may require an Inner Line Permit. Travellers should also account for actual road-travel time when planning an itinerary.
